About Me

Liberty King FGA
I am a jewellery specialist working at Bellman's regional auction house, where I source, value, research and catalogue antique and modern pieces. I began my career as a jewellery assistant and was quickly thrown in at the deep end, accelerating my development and fuelling my passion for the field. I regularly work with private and trade consignors, collectors and buyers searching for something special. Deeply sentimental by nature, I’m driven by a love of craftsmanship and the stories behind each object. Every piece is a puzzle and I love the challenge of uncovering its history.
What motivates me
I’m a hugely sentimental person with a deep admiration for craftsmanship, a love of symbolism, a passion for gemstones and a fascination with history. What motivates me most is seeing a piece that was truly cherished, worn by someone because it represented a meaningful moment or person in their life. I'm especially drawn to items that are beautifully made, set with gorgeous gemstones, hand-crafted during a particular artistic movement, or influenced by a specific time or place. There can be so much hidden behind what appears to be a simple ring or necklace. Uncovering these stories is like solving a mystery and it’s a challenge I love to take on.
How I began
I began my career as a jewellery assistant at a regional auction house. Two weeks after starting, my manager left, throwing me firmly in at the deep end. It was a steep learning curve, but one that fast tracked my development and my knowledge grew quickly.
What I do now
Currently, I work at Bellmans, a regional auction house, sourcing, valuing, identifying, cataloguing and completing condition reports on jewellery and watches, whilst following up on other responsibilities along the way.
Who I work with
My work primarily involves liaising with private and trade client consignors, as well as engaging with collectors, customers looking for that ‘one special piece’ or trade buyers.
Projects and pieces
I was extremely fortunate to catalogue the jewellery from the Anthony Gardener collection. A treasure trove of Art Nouveau and Arts and Crafts pieces from Mr Gardener, owner of the "The Purple Shop” on the Kings Road in Chelsea in the 1960’s. Handling this collection of exquisite pieces was a true honour. Highlights include cataloguing a 1970’s Cartier Losange watch, that achieved a hammer price of £85,000, identifying and attributing many pieces by Dorrie Nossiter and working with items by renowned makers such as Archibald Knox, Liberty & Co, and Arthur and George Gaskin.
